Bar: Happy Days Tavern
Address: 802 Bakewell St, Covington, KY 41011
Score: 8.2/10
I’m not sure I have ever seen a bar set the standard for any specific element, but Happy Days takes the cake for having the most badass mural on the side of the building. This thing is absolutely magnificent and catches the eye immediately as you drive past it.
Two things that are dying are dive sports bars and cigs inside, in Covington, KY, right outside out Cincy there is a bar that has both. Happy Days Tavern is just that, a bar that provides happy days. All I want in life is a good dive sports bar that has responsible priced beer. Happy Days is the spot for both. A Miller draft ran me a whopping $2.50 (just kidding about whopping this is dirt cheap) and they had representation from every KY/Cincy sports team throughout their bar.
They had ample seating that was in the form of ‘70s style high tops with colorful chairs. Something I saw a few times throughout the city. One of the things I loved most about this bar was the decor was littered across the bar. It was not necessarily the big ticket item decor with fancy lights but just cool shit from local teams they support. In the center of the bar, they have a massive pool table, which I appreciate as a guy that likes to shoot some pool from time to time.
They just don’t make bars like this anymore. I often don’t run into dive sports bars. This was genuinely a place where you can go and watch a game with the plenty of TVs they have and get a real solid buzz for $20 bucks. Something that is almost impossible to do nowadays.
They also transported me back in time by allowing patrons to rip darts inside. It just gave off a nostalgic atmosphere. Great spot.
