Post 104: Peter’s Pour House

Bar: Peter’s Pour House

Address: 111 Mercer St, Baltimore MD 21202

Score: 8.3/10

On a late January night I landed in Baltimore to purchase a vehicle at a local dealership. I knew absolutely nothing about the city other than to expect good seafood and purple camo pants from Ravens supporters. My expectations for Baltimore as a city were incredibly low but damn did this city deliver. I enjoyed it so much that I planned a trip shortly after to go to an Orioles game.

Anyways…. Back to Peters. As I landed at 10pm I was absolutely starved, not wanting a shitty meal I did some quick Googling and was not having much luck. I then asked the hotel front desk and the gentleman recommended me to Peters. What an absolute legend this guy was for that. When I arrived at Peters, I knew it was going to be a solid spot right off the bat. I entered from an alley and got to see a nice patio that they have. Due to it being 10 degrees I opted to go inside for a meal and a few pints.

When I walked into Peter’s the first thing I noticed was all the space. I mean this place had endless seating, multiple levels as well. They also had a sufficient amount of TVs, making it a decent spot to watch a game. The next thing that caught my eye was a gorgeous brass tap for all the draft beers. I do not follow many rules in life, but one of them is if you see this brass tap, I’m almost certain the beer will be cold and fresh.

After surveying the spot, I took a seat at a nice wooden, weathered bar and began to decide what I wanted. Before I could even order another thing caught my eye, the various bills from other countries on the back bar. I have seen dollar bills stapled to ceilings, but never this in bars.

Alright, now to the food. Look, I am not going to claim this was the best crab cake in the city, but it was a damn good one that exceeded my expectations at 11pm at night. It was large, had no fillers, and was seasoned to perfection. At this point I was in love with the spot. To make it even better, the beer prices were killer. Peter claims to originate the 32oz draft. While I cannot say if this is perfectly accurate, I’m going to believe them for the time being. I mean what a crazy concept, more beer = high purchase rates, a revolutionary concept, just glad they thought of it. On top of the 32 oz draft it was dirt cheap at $7 a glass. That comes out to about $2.60 for a 12oz draft for all you wiseasses arguing what is cheap or not.

Finally, no visit could be complete without admiring the unique bar top. I do not quite remember the material but remember a unique pattern, almost looked epoxied but I’m almost positive it is not. Peter played all the hits to perfection, overall great bar. I understand how they have been in business since 1987 at the current location, pure class.

Price: $7 for a 32oz draft

Decor:  Old was the decor downstairs, minimal signage, but the wood and brick spoke to the character, one of the rare bars I did not need tons of neons

Service: Great service, just a bunch of professionals.

Atmosphere: Friday night at 11pm was kind of dead, but could easily see this being more of a 3pm-9pm type of bar or even a day drinking bar

High Life Bottle?: Yes

Bonus Points: None
