Post 95: Polish Home Club

Bar: Polish Home Club

Address: 512 S Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21231

Score: 8.7/10

Boy, have I got a special bar for you all today. I truly do not know how I stumbled upon these places. I was at a nearby place eating dinner and I saw a sign from the street that caught my attention like the Batman logo. Maybe it was the fact it said “Polish” and my Polish blood appreciated the sign or maybe it was the sweet logo on the sign, honestly probably  both.

At this point my Baltimore crawl was at the end, but I could not just skip this last spot. It was just too intriguing. When I walked in I truly had no clue what to expect. I was surprised to essentially walk into a bar set in the 70s. It was a pseudo restaurant/bar. The bar was absolutely massive. They had a fat stage set up for a band and ample seating for meals. The chairs and tables looked like they were out of a Pizza Hut or something along the lines of that, they were old, let me tell ya. The star of the show was the bar. The bar itself had a wide range of beer options both domestic and Polish. I had my first Polish beer and it was not bad. The bar was a two-toned brown wood top, with more maroon backed chairs that once again reminded me of a pizza joint for whatever reason. The back of the bar had a great brick that was aged perfectly.

At the bar it was only a couple people, myself and a Polish man and his wife. The guy was guzzling beers and having a damn good time. I think we were the only people in the place due to a lack of an event taking place. The Polish gentleman assured me that when there is a band playing the place is buzzing. I believed him, that’s for sure. The only thing I did not enjoy was a lack of decor and the walls were white washed. Perfect wood paneled covered by white paint is a crime. Especially in a spot like this with so much character.

I know I said the bar was the star of the show but the real star was the old Polish bartender. She was all of 5ft but was such a character. Baltimore has been her home for most of her life and she just bartends for something to keep busy in the community. She told me all about living in Baltimore and the history of the Polish Home Club. Really solid bartender and just a great conversationalist.

Look, this is not a bar for everyone. It can be dead at times, but if they have an event you will wanna go experience it. I would not be shocked if they consistently had Polish food and played Polish music. It would be a damn good cultural experience.

Price: $4 Miller Lite cans

Decor: Only complaint. The roots were good, but lacked decor on the walls.

Service: A+ service can almost guarantee this bartender is working whenever they are open.

Atmosphere: Pretty dead, but I went on a non-event day, so shame on me.

High Life Bottle?: No

Bonus Points: I want to say cash only but cannot remember.
