“Check out the view, open 7am, 50 cent pool” the outdoor sign at the Lakeview Lounge sold me the second that I laid eyes on it.
Man, Denver was rich to me during my last visit when it came to discovering great dive bars. The Lakeview Lounge was no exception. This bar was incredible. I am not sure what I liked more, the obscure hours of being open from 7am-2am, the view overlooking a lake, or the fact it was cash only. Hell, I loved all of it.
The Lakeview Lounge is located in Denver, Colorado and overlooks Sloan’s lake. You would be pressed to find a dive bar with prettier scenery. The view is incredible and they have a great patio to go with it. The patio was filled with a unique cast of characters. All just enjoying cold beer and the outdoors of Colorado. Just when I thought the patio was the best part of the bar, I walked inside and was blown away. Everything you could possibly want in a dive bar, the Lakeview Lounge had. Wood paneling? You bet. Drop ceilings? Have them. Pool tables? You betcha. Wooden bar top? Of course. The Lakeview Lounge does not miss a beat whether you are indoors or outdoors. The inside also had some gorgeous black booths, they were far and few but they had some character, that’s for sure. Other notable features inside the bar were a fireplace (you never see this), pool tables, and more wall decor than you could imagine. This wasn’t your typical wall decor, this stuff was old and unique. Signage that was custom or they made limited runs. The few signs that stuck out to me the most were the Coors Banquet table lights, they had a couple and all were in excellent shape. The next light was the Coors field clock, it was massive and I have not seen this one. Finally, the best one was the Coors Co Avalanche sign with a goalie mask. I’ll make sure to upload a pic of it in this week’s video. God, it was so badass, I would kill for that same light for the Blackhawks. On my way out, I hit the bathroom, this bathroom was rough and looks like it’s been there since the beginning of time. The uniqueness just kept on appearing at this bar. The final touch to put the cherry on top was the vending machine selling food, which also had an advertisement to see the bartender to buy cigs, absolutely incredible.
Wow, what a bar. This is one of my top bars I have visited. I wish Denver had more of these places. They simply just don’t. The bar scene just does not compare to other cities, but the Lakeview Lounge stands out from the rest. Take a trip to this quirky, time capsule and drink a cold one.
