Post 76: Larry’s

Bar: Larry’s

Address: 536 W 9th St, Covington, KY 41011

Score: 8.4/10

Look, Yes I realize that Larry’s is in Covington and this is classified as a Cincinnati bar on the blog, it’s fine it’s so close to Cincy that it just works. But wow, what can I say about Larry’s. Just a really solid spot. From the outside yellow siding, you know this bar is going to have some character. I have yet to see another bar have siding as bright as Larry’s. This truly makes it easy to standout. When you enter Larry’s, you notice a few things, a very nice pool table, lovely wood tables, and multicolor chairs that line the bar. The bar also has a nice wood material, which adds another level of character to this place.

I absolutely love that the pool table is strategically located right when you walk in. Sets the tone for the bar and offers a great way to pass the time. Around the pool table you will find partial wood paneling that lines the walls, something that I absolutely love to see in bars. You can never have enough paneling. From the multicolor chairs, to the paneling and other decor, the best way to describe Larry’s vibe is a 60s/70s diner dive. I know it sounds odd, but it just works. Larry’s is a relatively new bar, although the inside would truck you making you think it has been there for 50+ years.

I honestly give props to the owners, it is so hard to make a new bar feel old and have authentic decor. Something I admire. Larry’s also has a nice pinball machine, and a pay phone that has a sign labeled “Historic communication device” right above it. A great jab at the younger crowd that Larry sees. I overall think the atmosphere for Larry’s is pretty diverse. We saw both a younger and older crowd, which I prefer.

The best part of Larry’s was the prices. $2.50 for a Miller Lite is music to my ears. A proper price for a proper beer. I did not get to check out all the beer prices and selection, but would imagine it is vast.

If you are in Cincy or Covington, make Larry part of your crawl. They have ample space (inside and out), a unique decor, and cheap beer, what more could you want.

Decor: I would have loved to see more wall decor, but Larry’s delivered strongly in this category with the tables, walls, and 70s feel.

Price: $2.50 Millers, enough said

Service: A+ Service, I wanted to ask more about the history of the bar, but the guy was solo and super busy.

Atmosphere: Pretty busy, all tables were full during off hours.

High Life Bottle?: Can not confirm, did not see any, but seemed like the place that would have a couple of ponies lyin’ around.

Bonus Points: No
