Location: 406 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78701

Score: 8.3/10

If you’ve been following We Rate Bars you know we think very highly of the city of Austin, TX. A bachelor trip down to the Lone Star State led to us finding many fantastic bars. Mooseknuckle Pub is one of these. Located on 6th Street, Mooseknuckle has plenty of competition but still can separate itself as one of the top bars on 6th Street.

What first attracts you to Mooseknuckle is the sign hanging above its door of a big moose. And how can you walk past a bar called Mooseknuckle and not get a laugh from the name? We keep it PG around here, so we are not going to go and give a definition if you don’t know what it means. That’s what the urban dictionary is for. Walking in, you’ll notice there are no crazy neon signs or vintage beer posters like most dive bars. Along one wall are all mirrors, and across from that is a massive beer, stocked with any liquor you could think of and a large selection of beer choices. You’ll also notice a sign advertising $6 beer pitchers which in my opinion is a phenomenal deal. And if draft beer isn’t your thing, drinks are still cheap, making it a great fit no matter what your drink of choice.

What separated Mooseknuckle was their service. Before going, the whole bachelor party was at another bar. Mizzou was playing Oklahoma in football. With all of us being big fans of Mizzou, we were excited to watch it. When we asked the bar to turn on the game we were told there was no way they were putting an Oklahoma game on in their bar. Hatred runs deep for Oklahoma in Texas, and while I kind of respect it, we knew we had to find a new spot to watch the game. A few of the others in our group happened to be at Mooseknuckle and when they heard what happened, asked the bartender if they would be willing to turn it on. They said absolutely, call the group and bring them in.

Walking in, they had the game on multiple TVs, so everyone had a good view of the game. The bartenders all asked the typical Where’s everyone from, what brings you to town questions. The usual small talk. Usually at bars that’s about it. However, at Mooseknuckle, all the staff were super friendly and kept the conversation going the whole night making it a super fun atmosphere. After Mizzou won, they even played Mr. Brightside (If you know, you know).

Mooseknuckle is an absolute must-visit bar if you find yourself in Austin. Of all the bars you could venture to on 6th Street, this is a must-add to your list. I cannot recommend this bar enough. Make sure you visit and get loose at moose.

Decor: The one part where this bar lacks. Minimal signs or decor on the walls. It makes you appreciate the bar for its other aspects regarding hospitality and prices.

Prices: Very cheap making it a great bar to spend a day or night at. $6 pitchers make for a phenomenal deal.

Service: Amazing service. Staff interacts with all the customers and holds conversations. Make it a very personable feeling for a town that has so many other bars where they seem to only care about getting your money.

Atmosphere: The cheap drinks and great service make this a great spot to pick out of all the bars on 6th Street. Plenty of TVs make it a great place to catch a game, while a wide variety of music being played creates that nightlife experience you may be looking for.

Cleanliness: Clean. Zero concerns.

Bonus Points: No bonus points.
