Let me just start by saying I love Denver Colorado. I love everything about the city besides the bar scene. The city is simply missing tons of great dive bars. Living there for almost a year and having visited multiple times, I rarely found any bars that I would go back to. One of the exceptions to this is Don’s Club Tavern. Every time I find myself going to Denver, I always end up at Don’s. Don’s is one of the oldest bars in Denver and has been around since 1947. Located in a great area, Don’s attracts all types of people creating a killer atmosphere that all bars should strive for. In a rather expensive city, Don’s offers drinks at affordable prices. With daily shot and beer specials, you can have a great time at Don’s without breaking the bank. Don’s also has a great pickle shot. To my knowledge, this is the first bar we have rated with a pickle shot on the menu. This shot immediately juices the ratings. We love a good pickle shot at WeRateBars.
Aside from the great deals, Don’s décor is awesome. Surrounded by wood paneling gives a retro atmosphere and provides a cozy place to drink beers year-round. Don’s also has a pool table, skee ball, and Big Buck Hunter. They have the perfect amount of games to pass the time along with plenty of seating for patrons. The wall décor at Don’s is what you’d expect. Vintage signs are scattered along the wall. Letting you know the bars age.
Don’s also has a patio outback where patrons are allowed to smoke. I have watched a few games on this back patio, it provides a different atmosphere but just as fun.
If you happen to be a Chiefs fan, Don’s is the bar for you. Don’s gets rowdy during Cheifs games. Before I knew it was a Chiefs bar, I went on a Sunday and the place was a sea of red. It was a very fun place to watch the Sunday NFL games. As far as food goes, Don’s does not have food on the menu but they allow you to bring anything in from outside food restaurants. If you happen to come on a Chiefs gameday, there is a giant potluck that happens regularly with a massive food spread (Do not be the guy that shows up empty-handed and stuffs your face. Nobody likes that guy).
In a city filled with cookie-cutter bars, Don’s provides a sense of nostalgia. If you want to take a break from $18 cocktails, Don’s may be the spot for you.
