Happy Thanksgiving fellow beer drinkers. Coming to you live from my kitchen table after a We Rate Bars sponsored keg celebrating blackout Wednesday. A little hungover but nothing some football, turkey, 1,000 beers can’t fix.
Today we travel back to the alma mater of the We Rate Bars boys. We are visiting Big 12. It’s technically called Campus Bar and Grill now, but if you call it that you’re uncultured and I don’t respect you. This bar is a staple to Mizzou. Whether a current student or in town for a visit, this is a great spot for some beers. Located in downtown Columbia on the outskirts of campus, this bar is perfect for any occasion. If you were to envision a sports bar in a college town, Big 12 would hit everything you imagine. Neon signs, sports memorabilia, and posters showcasing daily specials line the walls. Mounted TVs allow a variety of games to be watched for all fan bases. Can choose between sitting in the bar area, or a “dining room” section. The dining room section is just tables in the middle of the room with booths lining the walls. If you’re real lucky or you have a friend who has nothing to do all day, you can secure a corner booth. I don’t know what it is, but sitting in the corner booth with all your friends really just brings an elevated vibe to this place. Almost like a VIP feeling. The bar also isn’t a bad seating option. High top tables surround a massive horseshoe bar creating a great atmosphere. Another killer thing about Big 12 is rooftop seating. There’s nothing better than the sun on your skin while slamming some beers.
Having spent countless days and nights at Big 12, it would be hard to pick one great story to tell. What I would like to focus on is some of the deals Big 12 has offered that would have led to said stories. I very rarely went out on a Monday, but if I did it was Big 12. $1 bottles. Why go anywhere else. Wednesdays were spent meal prepping for the night with 30 cent boneless wings. Yes, 30 cents. There was no better way to prepare for a night out than wings and pitchers of beers. It was honestly the perfect way to set yourself up for success for the night that awaited you. And now we get to Thursday. 75 cent triple wells. I’m still searching endlessly for a deal that equates to this one. Being able to go out and get absolute blasted for that cheap should be criminal. And if it is criminal, lock me up and throw away the keys. And these were way stronger than a triple well. It was easily 99% liquor with a quick splash of soda. This has led to some absolute amazing nights. Here’s where I bring some bad news. Due to inflation and other economical bullshit, these prices have slightly increased. I have not been to Big 12 recently enough to confirm the exact prices of what they are now. I do know the last time I had went they were still damn cheap, so can’t really complain. All in all, this is a great college sports bar. Whether you’re watching a game or just heading out for drinks, Big 12 is an excellent choice that will not disappoint.
The We Rate Bars crews wishes you a happy Thanksgiving. We’re only just getting started and are thankful for the support you have all provided us this far. We’re not stopping till we rate them all. Now enough with the sentimental stuff. Go and enjoy a beverage on this wonderful Thanksgiving.
Décor: Nothing crazy here. Neon signs and sports memorabilia take up most of the walls. Exactly what you’d expect from a sports bar.
Service: Have always had good service at the bar and at a table. Mostly college kids working through college, so don’t be a dick if it is a little slower.
Atmosphere: A great college bar. One of the least confrontational bars in Columbia I would say. A perfect spot to go watch a game or enjoy a night out. Having rooftop seating is a major plus. Beers on a nice sunny day is absolute perfection.
Price: Cheap and great deals. Perfect prices for a college town bar.
Cleanliness: Clean. Zero worries.
Bonus Points: None.
