Score: 8.1/10
Mike recently told me my role for Tuesday posts was to get you, the reader, motivated to get through the rest of the week, and ready for Friday and to drink 1,000 beers. This post about Halftime Pub and Grill should do just that, and if it doesn’t, I hope your boss makes you go in on Saturday.
Figured it was time to bring a St. Louis bar into the mix, and wanted the first spot to be a good one. Halftime was put on the radar as I had heard they had 25-cent beers during English Premier League Soccer games. And yes, I know it’s technically Football, but we’re in America so I’ll call it whatever I want. We also learned the bar opens early on weekends for when these games are on, so we did what any beer lover would do. Rally the troops in the group message and plan to meet on a Saturday at 9 am. Walking in we were instantly greeted by a group of gentlemen there supporting their club. We grabbed a seat, and a waitress came over, and we asked the question we were dying to know: “Do you have 25-cent beers?” And to our delight, she said yes. So, like any sophisticated gentleman at 9 am on a Saturday, we all ordered a round. They are served in 10 smaller cups on a tray, or a pitcher if they are out of cups. And for $2.50, our Saturday morning fun was off to a flying start. While the bar is based around soccer, don’t let this deter you from making a trip. There are plenty of TVs with other sports on, and 25-cent beers in the morning are a great way to maximize your weekend spent being productive.
This place isn’t great just because they have 25-cent beers. I have been back multiple times while the beer deal isn’t going on, and have had nothing but positive experiences. The crowd that Halftime attracts are friendly and outgoing people. I have found myself being greeted and engaging in conversations with other patrons at all times. It’s nice being able to go to a bar where you can meet new people without the pressure of feeling like you need to impress the other person. The groups that go to Halftime are easygoing, and it’s always enjoyable getting to converse with new people and be a part of the social atmosphere this bar creates. The waitresses and bartenders also help keep this spot going with great service. They are quick to get orders and are also personable. They don’t just walk around serving the customers, but engage in a conversation, which makes you feel like you’re more than just a dollar sign in their bar. Not contributing to the score, but they do have a great food menu, including breakfast if you do go for the morning soccer games. All of the reasons above have made me add Halftime to my list of bars I like to keep in my rotation. It’s a tremendous atmosphere, with cheap drinks even outside of the 25-cent special. I look forward to spending many more nights and mornings at this spot.
Décor: The walls are wood paneling which honestly looks awesome and it gives a different look than most bars you visit. While this isn’t strictly a soccer bar, the décor is based around this. The ceilings are lined with flags, while the upper portion of the walls are scarves belonging to teams from all over the world. TVs line the walls, and some posters and neon signs are filling in the gaps. It’s nothing over the top and fits this bar very well.
Service: The waitresses and bartenders were awesome. Got orders out very quickly, while still being personable and having conversations with their tables. This is also on top of taking food orders and having to bring them out.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere here is sensational. The bar attracts a great group of people who are all welcoming. This is a bar where you could walk in alone knowing nobody, and walk out with 20 new friends that you’ve felt like you’ve known for years. We were recently there this summer for their 2nd-anniversary party, and it was a blast. They had live music and a bags tournament set up outside, making it an event for all ages. While I know some people may avoid places that are not 21+, I don’t think it should deter you from not checking it out. It isn’t a rowdy bar by any means, but it’s still a great spot with cheap drinks and good conversation. It’s a great place to hang out whether it’s for a sports game or just wanting to have a fun night out.
Price: 25 CENT BEERS. That’s all I should need to say. But if you aren’t able to be in attendance for that deal, you aren’t completely out of luck. Drinks are still on the cheaper side of many bars in the St. Louis area, and they also do drink specials on game days for all sports. It’s a bar where I can go drink a lot without breaking the bank.
Cleanliness: Zero concerns here. Good clean spot.
