Bar: Dougherty’s Neighborhood Pub

Denver, Colorado is the most unique city I have visited in the United States. There are so many different pockets within the city that are completely different, making each street a new experience. Like most cities you have your touristy street, night life street and stadium districts. Most cities lack having a street with grit and character that omits having cookie cutter establishments and restaurants. For Denver, Broadway street is just this. The street is littered with bars and good food and Dougherty’s is a cornerstone for this area. On the corner of Ellsworth and Broadway, Dougherty’s is a neighborhood Irish pub. They pride themselves on cheap drinks, great music, and awesome food. This is not your typical Irish pub as you’d see in a city such as Boston, Chicago, or New York. Dougherty’s lacks your standard wooden decor and old time feel that a great Irish bar has. To make up for this they offer cheap beer in an area that struggles in this category. 

What really makes Dougherty’s unique and one of my go-to spots every time I visit is the the fact that the bar has a decent amount of Grateful Dead memorabilia on the walls, plays tons of dead music, and has Grateful Dead themed menu items. As an avid dead head this absolutely rocks. I can only think of a handful of bars that I’ve seen that have any signage or dead posters in bars, let alone the amount of commitment Dougherty’s has to honoring the dead. 

While most might not find the dead interesting or hold this as merit to visit this establishment, consider the cheap beer, prime location, and great food you’d eat. 

Decor: I would love for this pub to have more of an Irish pub feel. If this category was improved Dougherty’s would easily be a 9+ scored bar. 

Prices: Very cheap beer along with a great happy hour making cheap beer even cheaper 

Service: Awesome service. Every time I go in I am typically reppin’ a dead shirt and have a conversation about the dead with the bartender 

Atmosphere: Because of the area and other awesome spots the atmosphere is hit and miss. Sometimes the place is packed and lively others it’s as dead as can be (no pun intended). Definitely a great spot to start or end your night at. 

Cleanliness: Clean as can be.
