Post 116: Olde Avon Tavern

Bar: Olde Avon Tavern

Address: 37111 Detroit Rd, Avon, OH 44011

Score: 9.2/10

Previously visiting the Olde Avon Tavern, Close Quarters was my favorite bar in the Cleveland suburbs. The Olde Avon Tavern truly won me over though. When I visited Ohio in February, I saw the Olde Avon Tavern out of the corner of my eye as I was going to a welcome party for a wedding. During that trip I did not have time to visit the bar, but made it a mission to visit at some point in 2026. Earlier in October a visit to this bar became a reality and it was everything I wanted and more.

From the street, this bar does not look like much. It looks more like a house than anything. Nothing from the outside of the bar gives you indication of what the inside would look like. When walking in the bar I knew this was an automatic 3-4 beer spot at minimum. This place was absolutely popping at 3pm, the bar stools were lined and the place was lively as can be. The bar itself was gorgeous. Almost all the seating was at the bar itself. The bar felt like it went on forever and ever leaving tons of room for all the patrons to sit. The barstools rivaled what you would see at an old diner, featuring a chrome base with a leather brown seat.

The bar back had a ton of signage as did the rest of the bar. The signage was incredible. Every single inch of the walls were filled, mostly with Cleveland sports and beer memorabilia. My favorite pieces of decor were the Jim beam bottles that lined the top of the bar back. Why do liquor companies not do fun shit like that anymore? The second favorite of mine was the High Life light right above the bar, I will upload a photo of this.

Just when you thought this review was wrapping up, you’re wrong. Once you make it out of the main bar area you find yourself in another area of the bar with some pool tables and the best 70s vibe you could possibly find. This is the most diverse second area of a bar I’ve ever seen, almost like entering a new bar, but it just worked. All the walls were lined with wood and the floors had carpet that could tell some stories. Of course this room was complete with the lamp from the Christmas story cause why the hell wouldn’t it be? I loved this area more than the main bar area, and this says a lot because the main bar area was sweet.

I have no doubt that the next time I am in the area I will visit this bar. It will be one of my very first spots.
