Post 79: Abe’s on Lincoln

Bar: Abe’s On Lincoln

Address: 17 Lincoln St, Savannah, GA 31401

Score: 9.5/10

Abe Lincoln was an honest man and let me be honest with you, this is one of the best bars I have visited and will easily crack my top 10. God, I really enjoyed Abe’s. It was only my second time to Savannah and I must have missed it the first time around, but this trip, Abe’s was top priority #1. Going into the bar, I did not know much about it. The bar logo is Abe Lincoln and the bar happens to be on Lincoln street, you gotta love a name with double meaning.

Abe’s is located in one of the oldest continuous bars in Savannah, it has been around since the 1700s and has shared many names along the way. I am just so happy I was able to visit this establishment while it was Abe’s. From the outside of the building you simply just notice a white facade and the bar’s unique logo, followed by a smaller outside patio for patrons to sit. Walking into the bar is a whole different story. This is where the bar shows its character. If you have been reading my bars, by now you should realize I love a good themed bar. Whether it is a classic sports theme or something more unique like a Christmas themed bar, I enjoy a good story or character to go along with the establishment.

Inside of Abe’s you first notice the shorter ceilings and cozy atmosphere. I then noticed the aged wood floors, not sure how old they are but man they looked ancient. The two fireplaces inside the bar also show the buildings. Rarely do I ever see a fireplace in a bar, let alone two. The seating is rather limited at the bar and at nearby tables. It almost gives you an Irish pub feel, nice and cozy. Alright, now the quirkeiness begins. The walls are mainly covered by drawings of Abe Lincoln, these photos are hand drawn by patrons on a white napkin, using a black pen. As you can imagine there are a wide array of Lincoln interpretations. From serious efforts to a humorous interpretation, these drawings had it all. I would imagine that tourists are mainly the ones doing these drawings rather than the locals. I did not opt to draw one because my artist skills are simply shit and I just wanted to enjoy a beer or two.

I can confidently say I never thought I’d find an Abe Lincoln themed bar, but here I am. I can confidently say I stumbled on this gem. Going forward this bar and Pinkie Masters will be my main go-to spots. They embody the character that Savannah has to offer and brings the “IT” factor that we look for at WeRateBars.

Price: Look, Savannah is NOT a cheap city. I think I paid $4 for a 16oz beer, not bad at all. While I was drinking Miller, they did have cheaper beers.

Decor: The decor was the star of the show, if you like Abe Lincoln or randomness, this bar is for you.

Service: A+ service. Bartender was mainly slinging beers, but was efficient.

Atmosphere: I went at 5pm on a Thursday and the place did not have an open spot. The bar primarily contained locals while floor seating looked to be tourists.

High Life Bottle?: Of course they had it.

Bonus Points: No
