Post 75: Second & Green Tavern

Bar: Second & Green Tavern

Address: 207 N Green St, Winston Salem, NC 27101

Score: 8.9/10

Here is a tale as old as time. I found out about a bar near my house after three years of living in the area. I did the same thing with the Silver Moon Saloon and now Second and Green. Before visiting Second and Green, Silver Moon was hands down my favorite bar in Winston Salem. But boy, Second and Green really won me over. Second and Green Tavern is located in Winston Salem, NC. It is tucked away by a popular apartment complex and near the city’s minor league baseball stadium. This bar absolutely rocks. From the location to the prices, everything about this bar is perfect in my eyes. There is nothing better than a bar with ample TVs and a wide variety of different domestic styles at a very affordable price. This place has multiple beers at 2 bucks. Something that is almost impossible to come by.

They tend to get newer beers as well and continue to mix the beer variety and keep me on my toes every time that I come in. Last time I visited, they had Busch Light Apple during a time when it was quite literally impossible to find because all the frat boys cleared the shelves. From $1.25 draft Miller Lite’s in Austin to $2 High Life Drafts in New Orleans, I have come across some pretty killer deals. By far and away Second and Green has the best deal I have ever seen, $3 32oz Busch Light drafts. Look, I am not the biggest Busch Light fan, but for that price, I can easily be swayed to be one. The deal of all deals right there.

A great dive has to have good prices, but beyond that a good atmosphere. Every time I have visited this bar, the people are friendly as can be and that goes for the bartenders as well. Last time I visited, I spoke to a gentleman on the bar’s patio for a solid 30 minutes. He noticed my Grateful Dead shirt and we talked about Jerry Garcia and Mickey Hart. It felt like I had known the guy for days. Just a seamless connection that tends to be made at a good community dive.

Inside the bar, I absolutely loved the decor, the bar had a fair amount of signs up, but also a decent amount of TVs. The best part is the bartender told me that they have football on every Saturday and Sunday, whatever game you please. She happened to be a OSU and a Browns fan, two of the teams that I follow closely, so that was just a bonus. I feel a lot of weekends being spent at Second and Green in my near future once football begins.

The place also had a decent pool table. A few bucks to play a game, but it is always a great change of pace and to pass some time. Also a great opportunity to shoot the shit with other patrons and have some friendly competition. Another detail that I appreciated was the vending machine. The options were as pure as can be, Cheetos, Camel Crush, and Reese’s, what more could a man ask for?

My first and second visits at this bar were an exceptional experience and I cannot wait until week 1 of college football. My only regret is I wish I visited this bar more often, but I sure as hell try my best to make up for lost time. As I was leaving the bar, I noticed an advertisement space on the ceiling of one of their drop tiles, $300 for an ad for a year. A fair price if you ask me. Do not be surprised if you see a WeRateBars advertisement featured soon in that spot.

Decor: The walls are pretty much covered, nothing super noteworthy, but a good set up, that’s for sure.

Price: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Tons of value.

Service: Great service, friendly staff. Very Welcoming.

Atmosphere: Everything you could want, a good local watering hole.

High Life Bottle?: Yes

Bonus Points: No

  1. Thank you so much for this detailed review! We’re so glad you found us! We definitely are known four our “friendly neighborhood vibe” and reasonable prices. We can’t wait for football season where we tend to have potlucks during most Sundays (especially when the Steelers play) and for you to try one of our famous “Greenway” house shots which is our $3 “all day, every day.” Cheers my friend!
