Bar: Three Legged Dog
Location: 400 Burgundy St, New Orleans, LA 70112
Score: 8.7/10
A recent bachelor party trip found the boys scrounging for cold drinks on the streets of New Orleans. While many go to New Orleans to get Bourbon Faced on Shit Street, you can’t be afraid to explore the surrounding area. Had we not done some research and stayed strictly on Bourbon Street, we would’ve missed out on an absolute gem of a bar.
Only being 2 blocks off Bourbon Street, you can add this to the rotation of bars you want to hit without feeling like you have to go out of your way to check it out. A corner location inside a building that matches the architectural style of the rest of the city, lies this beauty. Walking in, you notice this fits the definition of a dive. Small inside, dim lighting, and decor line the walls. Being a couple blocks off Bourbon Street, you avoid the obnoxious crowd that piles into some of the other touristy bars. You instead get a smaller, local crowd. But don’t let this discourage you. The southern hospitality really shines through with the friendly interactions of the other bar goers and bartenders.
Now if I lived in New Orleans, I would be gatekeeping this bar to myself due to the information I’m about to reveal. But because I’m stuck in the middle of Missouri, I’m willing to reveal the beauty of this bar. To start, they are open 24 hours. The bartenders told us part of the reason they do this is so the bartenders who work on Bourbon Street have a place to hangout once they close and get off. It’s also beneficial to the sickos like our friend group who want to keep the party going through the night. The drinks are also cheap. But hears the real kicker. They’re buy one get one free. And this isn’t a weekday deal or some happy hour. This is everyday, for 24 hours a day. If this place was directly on Bourbon Street, I have to imagine it would be absolutely slam packed. But just being 2 blocks away, this place is a diamond in the rough. Whether it’s a lack of research being done by those planning the trips, or people thinking they’re going to be missing out on fun by leaving Bourbon Street, this is a must visit spot. The only negative I have with this bar is it is a one man bathroom. But if that’s the only bad thing I have to say about this bar, then it’s a pretty damn good one. I highly recommend adding this to your list of bars if you find yourself in New Orleans.
Decor: Prime example of dive bar decor. Beer signs and lights just like you would expect out of a bar like this.
Prices: Great prices. And buy one get one drinks 24/7 is sensational.
Service: Great service. Bartenders are quick to provide you with drinks and are very personable.
Atmosphere: Awesome atmosphere. Not as hectic as Bourbon Street and a perfect spot to kick back and have some drinks.
Cleanliness: Grimy but in a good dive bar way. If you know you know. No real health concerns.
Bonus Points: Open 24 hours
